Chief Medical Information Officer Position Overview

As Aspirus continues to grow, the CMIO is the physician executive responsible for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of clinical care information across the system. In coordination with the CIO, the CMIO will be responsible for setting strategic direction for clinical systems and improving physician efficiency through the optimization of the Epic EHR.

Epic’s lab system, Beaker, will be implemented in early 2022, as well as integration of recently acquired facilities. An Epic “refuel” project is slated for 2023. As a business leader, the CMIO will engage with operations and make business cases as optimization continues throughout service lines.

Digital transformation is key to success at Aspirus as the organization moves forward. The CMIO needs to build key relationships; needs to translate the technical into clinical and work effectively across all disciplines, including nursing and analytics.

This CMIO will have the opportunity to build their informatics team in a matrixed organization. The CMIO will also co-chair clinical governance with the VP of Quality to drive the direction of clinical systems. The CMIO needs to understand the business case for project and be able to articulate the ROI to build organizational support.

Qualifications

Required:

MD or DO
License to practice medicine
Board Certified in specialty
Experience as a practicing physician
Experience implementing and optimizing an EHR

Desired:

Informatics board certification in informatics or other education informatics

Aspirus serves communities through four hospitals in Upper Michigan and 13 hospitals in Wisconsin, 75 clinics, home health and hospice care, pharmacies, critical care and air-medical transport, medical goods, nursing homes and a broad network of physicians.

On August 1, 2021, Aspirus Health has acquired seven hospitals, 21 physician clinics and air and ground ambulances from Ascension Wisconsin, part of St. Louis-based Ascension.

The transaction closed seven months after the two health systems entered into an agreement. The following seven Wisconsin hospitals are included in the deal:

Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill
Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff
Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley
Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk
St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander
St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point

Aspirus added 2,700 team members when the deal closed. The system said the names of the hospitals and clinics will change by December to reflect the Aspirus brand.

“This acquisition will help Aspirus provide better and more connected care to thousands and thousands more people in our region,” Aspirus President and CEO Matthew Heywood said in a news release. “We are excited to work with our new team members to serve more communities like the ones we call home.

Director, System Business Intelligence & Analytics Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Vice President – Chief Strategy Officer, the Director, System Business Intelligence & Analytics will serve as the change agent, constructing and implementing the vision for transforming data into actionable insights, and applying modern data science methods to business challenges.

This strategic role leads the business intelligence, reporting and data engineering functions, and is responsible for developing and implementing core data strategies and evangelizing a culture of data-driven decision-making.

The Director of Clinical Informatics will lead a team of ~40 overseeing all informatics functions and workflows related to clinical applications, as well as training and support. The Director will also serve as a liaison with executive leaders, physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure alignment and implementation of technology to support operations.

Qualifications:

Experience managing the operations of an informatics program in a major health care organization
Experience with Epic preferred
