Essentia Health has retained Kirby Partners to conduct a nationwide executive search for candidates for their Enterprise Analytics Director.

Essentia Health is an integrated health system serving patients in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. 

Headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota, Essentia Health includes 14 hospitals, over 70 clinics, six long-term care facilities, six assisted living and independent living facilities, six ambulance services, retail pharmacies, and a rural health research institute.

To address workforce shortages in health care, Essentia formed an Academic Practice Partnership with the University of Mary Saint Gianna School of Health Sciences nursing program (UMary Nursing) in Bismarck to invest in its future of nursing and across the entire region.

Essentia Health has similar partnerships with Minnesota State University Moorhead, North Dakota State University, the University of Minnesota, Northwood Technical College, the College of St. Scholastica, Lake Superior College, and La Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College.

Future expansion of Essentia’s downtown medical campus is a $900 million project, called Vision Northland. The project demonstrates Essentia’s commitment to the health of its patients, the economic vitality of the community, and the work environment for its staff.

The construction project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023 with the hospital opening for patient care in the third quarter of 2023.


Enterprise Analytics Director Position Overview

The Essentia Enterprise Analytics Director aligns and directs the management, development, and integration of data analytics and business intelligence necessary for supporting the mission, vision strategies, objectives, and goals of the business.  

This key executive is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for enterprise analytics programs including:

  • Reporting
  • Dashboarding
  • Advanced analytics
  • Data science

This includes implementation of technologies and strategies to drive clinical and business adoption and decision-making.

Overseeing a team of 55, this key and visible executive will take a strong program to the next level.

The ideal candidate will be 70% a strategic leader, and 30% technical with advanced knowledge of analytics.

The Enterprise Analytics Director reports to the VP of Information Services.


Qualifications

Required:

  • 7 years of progressive experience within information services or analytics management
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, or health-related discipline

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field including Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Epic experience

This position can be hybrid. Essentia expects the team member to be on-site at least once per quarter or as needed. Essentia will pay for any mandatory on-site commitments. (Additional trips would be funded by the employee.)

Associate Vice President, Information Technology Position Overview

With an innovative new CIO in place, the University of Miami Health System (UHealth) is in the process of expanding its technical capabilities, the IT team size, and continually optimizing its use of the Epic electronic health record. With a highly collaborative culture, relationship building across functional areas is encouraged to move projects forward and ensure the highest quality of clinical care.

The Associate Vice President, Information Technology is a new position for UHealth and will provide a rare opportunity for the right candidate to establish an inaugural business application department at a $4B health system.

The Associate Vice President, Information Technology will build their own team and help set the IT strategy and vision for the future. This position will report directly to the CIO.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Workday, time and attendance, budgeting and planning tools.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in building a department and migration to new apps. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

  • Subject matter expert in Workday.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Must be able and willing to provide hands on leadership and be prepared to lead from the front.
