The CTO will deliver and support the information technology infrastructure assets and services needed to achieve Lifespan’s mission of delivering health with care.  

They will also align technology vision and architecture with business strategy by integrating business processes with appropriate forward-looking technologies, technology modernization, and cloud migration. 

The CTO leads the Information Services teams that maintain enterprise IT systems, including the system-wide implementation of the Epic electronic health record, at high standards of reliability, availability, and security needed for a large and complex academic healthcare system. 

They will support enterprise growth and operations with information technology and architecture plans that are flexible and scalable while introducing new technologies with demonstrated stability, such as the appropriate use of cloud technologies.  

The CTO will also continue to develop a cloud-smart migration strategy through SaaS, PaaS, and Iaas.


Qualifications

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences or related field is required. 
  • A Master’s degree or PhD. is preferred. 

Experience:

  • Seven or more years of experience in progressively more responsible information services management roles in a diverse and operationally complex organization. 
  • Experience in managing complex technological infrastructures for a regional enterprise. 
  • Excellent knowledge of technology environments, including telecommunications, networks, media, desktops, mobile devices, data center technologies (Server and Storage), and cloud-based infrastructure services. 
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems. 
  • Technical experience with systems networking, databases, and user support. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply solutions to business problems.

Chief Information Security Officer Position Overview

The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is primarily responsible for risk management including advising senior management of risks to the business due to the implementation of technology used for business operation. 

This advisory position includes maturing and innovating an information security program and management infrastructure to ensure that technology risks are identified and managed according to the risk culture of the enterprise.

The CISO reports to the Chief Assurance Officer at Geisinger who reports to the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board of Directors. The CISO also provides updates to the Committee on a quarterly basis. The CISO works closely with peers in information technology, privacy, legal and internal audit. 

Some other key projects:

  • Integrating an academic institution’s technology platform into the System’s information technology infrastructure
  • Developing a security strategy to support various joint venture information technology requirements

The CISO will provide leadership to the security team of approximately 20 staff, which includes security operations, incident response, cloud security, and security communications. 

The CISO will continue to build a robust security program based on the NIST framework.  Some of the key projects in which the CISO will play an integral role will be: 

  • Partnering with information technology to provide information security recommendations during Geisinger’s digital transformation/cloud modernization 
  • Maturing the information security program, policies and tools to support a hybrid-cloud model 
  • Improving security awareness
