Lurie Children’s is one of the few children’s hospitals in the country to have its own research center devoted to pediatric diseases, the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute. Manne Research Institute’s mission is to generate new knowledge and translate advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that affect children’s health through adolescence and adulthood. Their multidisciplinary teams are committed to making discoveries that will transform pediatric medicine and improve the lives of children and their families.

A second named institute, the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities serves as the hub for all Lurie Children’s community-focused initiatives. Their experts partner closely with community-based organizations and leaders, to link clinical work with grassroots expertise to develop evidence-based initiatives that help children and communities thrive.

Position Overview

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) at Lurie Children’s is responsible for shaping and leading the organization’s digital and technology strategies. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and managing technology systems to enhance clinical care, research, education, and advocacy.

The CDIO will provide visionary leadership by integrating information and technology solutions to support seamless, patient-centered care and optimize overall performance. As a key partner to other senior leaders, the CDIO will drive digital transformation to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare environment, focusing on data governance, analytics, and technology infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include leading the integration of digital platforms, such as Epic systems, to ensure effective data sharing, security, and regulatory compliance. The CDIO will also leverage emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive digital strategy aligned with Lurie Children’s mission and strategic goals across clinical care, research, education, and advocacy
• Lead enterprise-wide technology integration, ensuring seamless data sharing, confidentiality, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
• Establish effective data governance and uniform data standards to enhance patient care and organizational processes through knowledge-based analytics
• Drive digital innovation to improve clinical, financial, operational, and research outcomes
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align technology strategies with clinical and business objectives, fostering continuous improvement and competitive advantage
• Cultivate a high-performance information management team, promoting a culture of engagement, accountability, excellence, and professional growth

The CDIO will also manage the capital and operational budgets for the information management department, ensuring prudent investments in technology systems that deliver measurable returns.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Master’s degree
• Ten (10) years of proven leadership experience, preferably in a large academic medical center or complex health care organization
• Proven track record of developing strategy, detailed implementation plans, and tactical execution in a high-reliability organization with an emphasis on technology leadership and system-wide integration.
• Experience in change management and adoption of new technologies
• Thorough understanding of the delivery of health care and the systems and technologies, including Epic-based electronic health records

Preferred:

• Workday experience
• Background in pediatric healthcare

Note: The CDIO will be expected to be on-site at the main hospital campus in Chicago for the majority of their time. Relocation to Chicago is highly preferred.
